What Are Lab-Grown Diamonds?
What Are Lab-Grown Diamonds?Real diamonds, reimagined.
A lab-grown diamond is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined diamond. The only difference is origin — created in a lab in weeks, not the earth over billions of years.
Yes — a lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. It is pure crystallized carbon with the same hardness, brilliance, and fire as a stone pulled from the earth, graded on the very same 4Cs by IGI and GIA. It is not a simulant like cubic zirconia or moissanite. At Amorati, we call them grown diamonds: real, conscious, and certified.
Two ways to grow a diamond
Both methods recreate the conditions of natural diamond formation — and both produce a real diamond, identical to one mined from the earth.
High Pressure High Temperature
HPHT mimics the way diamonds form deep in the earth, using extreme pressure and heat to crystallize carbon into a diamond. The original method — robust and brilliant.
Chemical Vapor Deposition
CVD builds a diamond layer by layer from a carbon-rich gas inside a vacuum chamber. Precise and efficient, it often yields stones with exceptional clarity.

A real diamond, down to its atomic structure — with the same hardness, clarity, and fire as its mined counterpart. The Amorati Standard
Same brilliance. Same forever. Less compromise.
Identical material — the differences are origin, footprint, and price.
| AmoratiLab-Grown Diamond | Mined Diamond | |
|---|---|---|
| Composition | Pure crystallized carbon | Pure crystallized carbon |
| Hardness | 10 (Mohs scale) | 10 (Mohs scale) |
| Brilliance & fire | Identical | Identical |
| Certification | IGI / GIA on the 4Cs | IGI / GIA on the 4Cs |
| Origin | Grown in a lab in weeks | Formed over 1–3 billion years |
| Environmental impact | Lower land & water disturbance | Higher (extraction & mining) |
| Ethical transparency | Fully traceable origin | Varies by supply chain |
| Price | 30–60% less | Traditionally higher |
Because you're not paying for rarity of origin, you'll often get higher clarity, better color, or a larger stone for the same budget.
Diamond, moissanite, or cubic zirconia?
Not all sparkle is created equal.

| Hardness (Mohs) | 10 | 9.25 | 8.0–8.5 |
| Sparkle | True diamond brilliance | More rainbow "fire" | Glassy, less brilliant |
| Over time | Lasts forever | Durable, distinct look | Dulls & scratches |
| Relative price | $$$ | $$ | $ |
Are lab-grown diamonds worth it?
For most modern buyers, yes. A grown diamond gives you the beauty and permanence of a real diamond — with greater transparency and more stone for your budget.
- They're real. Same composition, same grading, same permanence as mined.
- They're conscious. No mining, no mystery — just beauty with full transparency.
- They're elevated. Often higher in clarity and color, without the markup.
- They're modern. Made for how you live, love, and wear jewelry now.

Held to one standard, always
We set our grown diamonds in solid 14K and 18K gold — never plated — and every center stone is independently IGI-certified. No filler, no compromise: just real diamonds and real gold, for the moments worth remembering.
